Benefits
of Hickory Run Membership:
Work with other Versatile Hunting Dog owners and handlers:
The Chapter offers every member the opportunity to share training
and testing experience with other owners of the same or similar
breeds, advice on training techniques, assistance with problem dogs
(or dogs with owner problems). Whatever problem you may be experiencing
someone has had the same issue.
Clinics and
mock tests: The Hickory Run Chapter will offer several training
sessions, possibly a Handler Clinic and mock tests during the year
for the benefit of members who are training pups or working toward
a formal NAVHDA-sanctioned Test.
Questions
on Breeds: Hickory Run members own a wide variety of versatile
hunting dog breeds. Chapter members are available to offer personal
experiences from their own testing, training and hunting experiences.
The opportunity exists to watch these dogs in the field to help
with decision on whether a specific breed is right for you. That
experience will be helpful first hand information for the new owner/handler.
NAVHDA-sanctioned
Tests: We will be conducting NAVHDA-sanctioned tests for all
levels including Natural Ability and Utility level. These will be
scheduled from time to time. Check the events page for the schedule.
Youth and
family mentoring: Members of the Hickory Run Chapter encourage
the participation by our junior members in dog training and handling,
and in gaining a better understanding of the value of using well-trained
hunting dogs in the pursuit of game. The family tradition is a core
belief in the chapter.
Judge Development:
Members of the Hickory Run Chapter will have the opportunity to
begin a Judge apprenticeship and continue accumulating training
and experience toward becoming a NAVHDA judge.
